With the growing threat of CBR materials being used in theatre, there is a need for command posts and field-hospitals which offer full COLPRO (collective protection) and also treatment for the injured. Utilis treating modules are adapted to mission requirements offering a sustained medical support accomplished by food, hygiene, water treatment, power distribution, and lodging modules that are vital for smooth and certain operation. The Utilis COLPRO field hospital is supplied for forward medical posts and other medical facilities for military operations. Emergency care facilities and general hospital facilities are designed to be highly mobile in theatre or suited for long-term deployments. The NBC field hospital includes a fully equipped operating theatre (bottom right). Utilis shelters are also used by civil protection organisations, rescue forces, and relief and first aid organisations in Africa, as well as for conflict and disaster stricken areas in Asia and the Middle East and have also been recently supplied to the UN and Peruvian Health Ministry. The shelters have to resist adverse weather conditions and have passed Natick technical tests to withstand 10 psf snow load, high temperature at 130°F (55°C) - needed increasingly in today’s military campaigns - with 1100 watts/sq m of solar loading, 90 km/h sustained wind loads (with 105 km/h gusts), wind-driven rain, blackout protection and 50 erect-strike durability cycles.

kärcher reveals new range of equipment
Kärcher Futuretech and its partner NBC-Sys of France within the Eurodecont Consortium have embarked on a joint German-French government project to provide decontamination systems for sensitive equipment. This includes an array of optical and electronic devices, personal digital assistants and optronics and personal equipment such as handguns and combat helmets. The modular design can be optimally
integrated into the families of CBRN decontamination systems available in the two countries. The German Federal Armed Forces rely on the protected
GTF ZLK 15 transport vehicle with a hydraulic crane, which they also use for the TEP 90 decontamination system. The French Army prefers compatible
trailer solutions as well as vehicles in use within the Army. The project’s first systems are expected to be delivered in the first half of 2013 at a contract value for the Consortium of around Euro 5 million. Based on existing gas and vacuum
technologies, decontamination may be carried out independently when the system has been unloaded from the carrier vehicle. The system can neutralise contaminants in all the three hazard areas and meets the efficiency criteria of AEP-58.
TALKING THROUGH THE MASK
The CPE module (Container Personal Equipment) is designed to decontaminate thermally resistant personal equipment in a hot gas/hot steam procedure. The spray-extraction method is used for wet chemical NBC decontamination of personal equipment and the CSE module (Container Sensitive Equipment) will decontaminate sensitive parts of personal equipment using vacuum decontamination technology. Contaminated material is inserted on the ‘dirty side‘; decontaminated material is taken out on the opposite ‘clean‘ side to avoid any spread of contamination and to reduce the risk for the operator to a minimum.
Communications are all-important during an incident, so Draeger has brought out FPS-COM-PLUS - a fully integrated communication system for use by firefighters and first responders and specially designed for the Draeger FPS 7000 full face mask. The new communication unit provides clear voice transmission under extreme emergency conditions. The voice amplifier system with twin speakers on left and right of the mask ensures a balanced system with a surround sound output that enhances the clarity of messages received. The microphone of the FPS-COM- PLUS picks up the wearer’s voice inside the mask. Digital noise reduction technology filters out any interference reaching the microphone inside the mask or acoustic feedback. Pure breathing sounds are not transmitted to the voice amplifier or the radio, allowing the user to concentrate fully on the radio message. The unit is fully submersible and can be cleaned without being removed from the face mask. It is open to different communication channels and can be integrated into an existing radio system.
