Complex Commodity Management

Leading CTRM specialists Triple Point Technology continue to develop deeper functionality throughout commodity markets, from upstream to downstream in all commodity supply chains. Guy Isherwood speaks to Triple Point Technology’s Michael Schwartz about the opportunities ahead.

Guy Isherwood [GI]: Triple Point acquired QMASTOR in late 2011. Why did you choose to acquire a mining software company, and what benefit does it bring to your customers?

Michael Schwartz [MS]: Triple Point acquired QMASTOR to help the mining industry efficiently manage the surging demand for coal and minerals that is being driven by massive middle class expansion in emerging markets like China and India. In order to meet increased demand, mining

companies need efficient, streamlined, and cost- effective supply chains, and that’s where QMASTOR comes in. Triple Point’s strategy is to provide the deepest functionality, from upstream to downstream, in each commodity class. The addition of QMASTOR solutions to the Triple Point family means that we can now provide our customers with all the functionality required for optimizing an end-to-end coal and mineral supply chain.

“Mobility will transform commodity

management by empowering employees to perform key functions on-the-go”

QMASTOR is a perfect fit for Triple Point because

its software is completely complementary to the rest of the product set. Triple Point’s extensive resources united with QMASTOR’s exceptional solutions and team is an unbeatable combination.

[GI]: A recent Gartner prediction said that by 2016, the only wire required for employee work spaces will be the power connector. How do you see the trend towards a wireless workplace changing the way companies manage commodities? The trend towards a more mobile workforce means

[GI]: In your press release about Koch Supply & Trading choosing Triple Point, it states that your software is used by 70% of the world’s top trading organizations. To what do you attribute this success? Triple Point is the preferred commodity management

vendor of top trading companies worldwide due to the unparalleled depth and breadth of our offerings and our exceptionally strong team. We provide the broadest and deepest commodity solution set in the market, and therefore can help commodity companies meet both their short- and long-term goals. Triple Point is the only company delivering a complete solution for optimising multiple commodities on a single platform: buying, selling, trading, and procurement; enterprise risk management; scheduling and logistics; storage;

real-time access to information whether they are in the office or on the road. Commodity management is no different and our customers require immediate access to trading, positions, operations, and risk information. Mobility will transform commodity management

by empowering employees to perform key functions on-the-go, and before competitors can react. The important phrase here is ‘key functions’. You can’t just take an entire application and put it on a mobile platform. You have to think about which functions make sense in a mobile environment, and then create applications that enable those functions to be performed effectively on a mobile device. As the only commodity management software

company currently offering mobile applications, Triple Point is at the forefront of the mobile revolution. We have already released four mobile applications, including a management dashboard for monitoring key performance indicators, a voyage estimation application for charterers, an inventory monitoring application for schedulers, and a system console enabling IT to remotely monitor and troubleshoot deployments of our flagship commodity management solution. Our plan is to release one new mobile application per quarter.
