Broadway Musicals THE BOARDS TRADING

Book Broadway in advance and cash in on the most important part of your client’s New York itinerary, says Sally Parker

BROADWAY MUSICALS  Top Selling Tips...

• Book a long weekend... “I flew from Heathrow at 19.00 and was in New York by 22.00. After packing in three shows I headed home at 21.00 on Sunday and was back in the UK by 09.00 ready for work!”

• Better second time around... “Just because someone has already seen a show in the UK doesn’t mean they won’t want to see it again. In fact it’s more likely that they will want to see the same one again on Broadway so they can compare the two”

• Just the ticket... ”Sell more than just Broadway! New York offers a host of other pre-bookable activities, like boat tours, food tours and city attractions like museums and the Empire State Building's”

Vibrant and exciting New York is a city that never fails to capture

imaginations and is at the top of many people’s ‘must visit’ list. Once there, entertainment and more specifically Broadway, plays a big part in the archetypal New York experience. Last year, 12 million tickets were sold for Broadway shows and most visitors to New York had ‘seeing a Broadway show’ on their to-do list. But the reality is that your clients need to book in advance to secure their seats at the show.

Last-minute deals are hard to come by and if clients try to book through their hotel the concierge will add a fee making the ticket prices prohibitively expensive. Research has shown that, though over 85% of visitors entering New York say they plan to catch a show, of these 60% don’t see one. Broadway shows provides a golden opportunity for travel retailers to pre-sell tickets, thus giving customers better value – and a better seat – by confirming tickets along with their other travel arrangements. Tickets bought in the UK and included
