show report Indaba 2012

The Durban ICC again hosted this year’s Africa travel exhibition running from May 12-15 and hosting over 11,000 members of the travel industry...

BY JO AUSTIN AND SALLY OAKEY With more than 2,000 exhibitors at

this year’s Indaba in Durban, it was estimated that the economic impact on the city and KwaZulu-Natal as a whole was in excess of R250 million. The theme this year was ‘Shaping our future together – partnering to win’ and new to the show was a series of speed marketing sessions showcasing heritage, adventure, and responsible tourism. The four-day event has been held at

the ICC since 1992 and has helped to transform the city’s seafront which now features promenades, spotless beaches

and top quality international hotels. Commenting on the show, Lungi

Morrison, UK country manager for South Africa Tourism said: “We have a goal to push up UK visitor numbers to 600,000 over the next couple of years so we are working closely with the trade in a number of joint initiatives, particularly with South African Airways. Indaba is a great platform for us to welcome our UK tour operators to show them new product and experiences, an opportunity to inspire our UK trade ahead of all the work that has to be done in the market". www.indaba-southafrica.co.za
