to pipes and manifolds much easier. Their positioning, once the pipe is installed, allowed Ferroplast to obtain the required orientation or direction in order to carry out joining to the necessary pipe. Inspection chambers allow easy inspection of connections for smaller diameters (up to 400mm) of pipe. And a connection gasket allows for connection to

structured wall pipes. Its great advantage is that it can be placed once the pipe has been installed.

key factors in the success of this project. Previous to this, precast concrete manholes would

have been used, but these were technically infeasible for this project. Ferroplast offered the possibility of using manholes made from PE100. They are being supplied in diameters of 600-1,200mm. The main advantages of using HDPE manholes are

the fact that they are light, flexible but very solid. They adapt to the earth’s movements, preventing cracks – even at connection points – thanks to the flexibility of their joints. Installation is easy, with no heavy machin- ery needed. They also deliver a high degree of security at the

construction site: a 2m high PE manhole with a diameter of 1000mm weighs around 80kg, while the same size of concrete manhole would weigh 2500kg. This project, begun almost two years ago, has

already helped to improve life for residents of the Ancienne Médina. Not only are the old potable water and sewerage networks being replaced, but a number of new homes are now connected to the renewed networks. ❙ www.grupogpf.com
