Colleen Dennis moved to Mount Pleasant from the Midwest in January. Although she has been here only a short time, she feels right at home
and thoroughly embraced by the people and ambience of the area. Formerly a managing editor at a Chicago-based golf publication, Colleen is currently a freelance writer and is looking forward to writing about all the great people and places in the Lowcountry.
Holly A. Fisher is a writer and editor with a love of learning about people, listening to their experiences and sharing those stories through words. She and her husband live in Mount Pleasant with their 4-year-old daughter and two dogs. When she isn’t at her computer, Holly can be found reading, garden- ing or doing CrossFit. Read more about her at
www.HAFCreative.com.
Ryan Overhiser is a young Yankee trying not to ruffle too many feathers
in the Lowcountry. Having transplanted from Philadelphia last June, where he earned his bachelor’s at Temple University, Ryan has
spent the past year immersing him- self in everything Charleston has to offer. Te picturesque beaches, award- winning food and beautiful Southern belles have captured his heart.
Susan Sloate is the author of 18 published books. Her latest, “Realizing You,” a self-help novel written with Ronald Doades, will be published this summer. She is best known as the author, with Kevin Finn, of the 2003 alternate-history thriller “Forward To Camelot.” Te book about the assassination of John F. Kennedy was a No. 6 Amazon bestseller, took honors in three liter- ary competitions and was optioned for production by a Hollywood film company. “Realizing You” is a quarter- finalist in the 2012 Amazon Break- through Novel Award contest.

www.MountPleasantNeighborhoods.com I -Denise K. James
couldn’t be more enthusiastic about be- ing the new managing editor of Mount Pleasant Magazine. Tis opportunity is the perfect combination of my two favorite topics: people and writing.
I can’t really say when I first discovered how much I love words and the joy of putting words
together. I grew up in South Carolina, where my family fostered my love for community and communication. Te walls in my house were lined with hun- dreds of books and magazines, and my mother read to me each night. I’ve been living in the Lowcountry for more than seven years, and this is-
sue of Mount Pleasant Magazine is the first publication that I’ve experienced in total – the writing, the photography, the covers and, most importantly, the teamwork. It’s been quite an exciting time for me, and I’m pleased to share the end result with our readers. I hope you’ll enjoy this issue of our magazine.
