the end result is certainly rewarding. That said, check out the cool pictures that our own co-managing editor, Brian Sherman, snapped at the new Bowman Road overpass on April 15 when that new part of Highway 17 opened for business. Then tell yourself it’ll all be over soon. June 1 is the official beginning of hurricane season, as our local meteorologists men- tion in the feature story “Sunny Dispositions.” Visit the Web to read interesting tales penned by locals on surviving Hurricane Hugo, one of the East Coast’s most devastating storms ever. These stories originally appeared in “Storm of the Century,” a special Media Services publication that came out in 1989 as the Lowcountry was recovering. The accounts of how residents dealt with the wrath and aftermath of the hurricane are inspir-

Island, benefiting the Ruth Rhoden Craven Foundation, is a Mother’s Day mainstay. We’ve got pictures of the event. And don’t miss the photos we took at the Old Village Home, Garden & Art Tour, benefiting the American Red Cross. These gorgeous homes are meant to be seen.
