With so many ‘Moveable Weight’ or ‘Flight Control’ Drivers now hitting the market, I think we can take it that this technology does work.


In fact independent experts have proved that, within the current manufacture and design constraints, you can alter the width of ball flight by up to 75 yards for the same swing, just by moving weight and face angle at address.


The other indisputable fact is that the same Driver in the hands of two different golfers will produce different ball flight results even if both swings strike the ball on the sweet spot and have identical swing speeds.


SAME SWING, DIFFERENT RESULTS


In the search to find the perfect Driver for each individual golfer, manufacturers explored three different routes.


Initially they provided different variations and added models with differently biased weighting (you will have seen Drivers on the market with ‘Draw’ bias for example) so that you could choose a model closely suited to your game.


The next step was to allow you to pair different head designs with different shafts in the Fitting process.


Finally, along came ‘adjustable weighting’. This allowed you to buy a single Driver and then adjust the weight or/and face angle set up to get the best possible results from your swing.


All of these are efforts to help you get the ball further down the fairway more often, and the manufacturers are getting better at it. What we need to do is to make sure that we put the right solution into your hands. So let’s make sure that in 2012 we are making the most of any investment.
