11 MARCH: CAIRO
An Israeli diplomat was found to be carrying a gun when he arrived on an Air Sinai flight, whilst accompanying the Israeli Ambassador to Egypt, Yaakov Amita. The diplomat wanted the firearm with him when the flight landed, rather than relying on the Egyptian security services for protection until the baggage was delivered had he checked in the firearm.
11 MARCH: BUFFALO A loaded .38 calibre gun and ammunition were found in a passenger’s carry-on at Buffalo Niagara International Airport. The owner was cleared to fly.
14 MARCH: ACCRA Accra’s airport was temporarily closed when a fight erupted between airport security personnel and police officers. The police were attempting to arrest a security guard for his behaviour the previous night, when President John Mills had returned from the US, and the guard’s colleagues tried to prevent the arrest as they felt that the police were acting unreasonably and as a result of conflict between the two agencies.
15 MARCH: MANILA Edgardo Abuan Co, a 28-year-old US serviceman, refused to show his passport on his arrival in the Philippines off a Qatar Airways flight from Doha; he presented his military ID instead. When refused entry to the country, he threatened to “gun down” everybody around him.
15 MARCH: COPENHAGEN Security officers went on strike for four hours at Copenhagen Airport.
15 MARCH: SEOUL
Israel’s Foreign Minister, Avigdor Liberman, refused to have his bag X-rayed by security at Incheon Airport as he was departing South Korea following talks
about boosting economic and trade ties on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two nations.
18 MARCH: MIAMI Rodrigo Viadas was asked to disembark an Aeromexico flight preparing to depart for Mexico City following a complaint about his sexuality by another passenger on board.

19 MARCH: PHUKET, THAILAND Approximately 2,000 local residents and farmers assembled in front of the main passenger terminal at Phuket International Airport to meet Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra as part of a campaign in respect of land rights. The protestors called themselves PMOVE – the Peoples Movement.
20 MARCH: MOSCOW A Transaero flight was preparing to depart Moscow for Krasnoyarsk when a passenger noticed a missing inspection panel
by one of the engines. Although the crew did delay departure to inspect the engine, they then said that the aircraft was certified to fly without it and opted to depart. 27 passengers, however, opted to disembark.
20 MARCH: EL ALTO, BOLIVIA The road from El Alto to La Paz was blocked by demonstrators protesting about Bolivia's education system. As a result, football players from Colombia’s Junior de Barranquilla found themselves trapped in the airport on the day that they were to play a match in La Paz against Bolivar as part of their Copa Libertadores campaign. They made it to the city in time for the match.
29 MARCH: SULAWESI ISLAND, INDONESIA Demonstrators against an increase in fuel process took to the runway at Sultan Babullah airport and caused damage to airport equipment.
29 MARCH: BAMAKO, MALI Jets carrying the presidents of Ivory Coast, Niger, Benin, Burkina Faso, and Liberia for a meeting with Mali's military leaders were forced to turn back mid-flight after hundreds of people invaded Bamako's main runway. Mali had undergone a coup the week before and the runway invasion was performed by coup supporters who were protesting against outsiders interfering with domestic politics.

2 FEBRUARY: EXETER, UK Nicholas Weeks, 34, was removed from a Flybe jet preparing to depart for Alicante from Exeter as a result of his intoxicated, aggressive behaviour, even though his flight was only departing at 1000. He was later sentenced to an 18-month conditional discharge, but no costs due to his lack of means.
13 FEBRUARY: NEW DELHI
23 MARCH: KARACHI Former Pakistan cricket captain Shahid Afridi attacked and slapped a fan at Karachi airport after his daughter was accidentally knocked to the ground by the crowd meeting the team when it returned home from Dhaka.
26 MARCH: POLONIA, INDONESIA Hundreds of protesters from the North Sumatra Residents Congress took to the streets leading to Polonia International Airport, resulting in significant delays to flights as passengers had to access the airport on foot.
28 MARCH: LILONGWE, MALAWI Reports emerge that Uladi Mussa, an opposition party politician, claims that he was subjected to a humiliating search at Kamuzu International Airport when he was departing for South Africa.

Kapil Singhal is alleged to have become angry at the airport when his Kingfisher Airlines flight to Mumbai was delayed. When the flight was eventually called, he then allegedly tried to stop the other passengers boarding and when a ground hostess tried to stop him, he is reported to have been abusive to her and molested her.
15 FEBRUARY: TOKYO
A flight attendant was assaulted by a passenger on a United Airlines flight en route from Hong Kong to Chicago resulting in the aircraft diverting to Tokyo.
21 FEBRUARY: PORTLAND Yazeed Mohammed Abunayyan was arrested for his unruly behaviour on a Continental Airlines flight en route from Portland to Houston. He was using an electronic cigarette, which are banned on Continental Airlines flights, and refused to turn it off when asked to do so. The plane returned to Portland with Abunayyan reportedly yelling profanities and swinging his fist at the flight attendant, and making comments about Osama bin Laden and his hatred of women.
