Inscentinel is a British start up that is known for its pioneering work in harnessing honeybees as detectors for explosives and illicit substances.
Working closely with the UK Home Office, it has developed a prototype detector, Vasor136, with a sensitivity that beats even the most advanced Ion Mobility Spectrometer. Housing 36 SnifferBees inside the Vasor136, it has the benefit of the high sensitivity of a sniffer dog and the operational convenience of a machine. A SnifferBee training round is only 6 seconds compared to 6 months for a sniffer dog; this ability to train thousands of SnifferBees a day makes it a sustainable and cost effective solution. Inscentinel’s Bee Sensor System Concept is a practical system to deploy sniffer bees for use in airport security and cargo screening as well as in border control and customs, to serve areas of security where high accuracy and high throughput are of paramount importance.
