30 MARCH: WELLINGTON
The Sydney FC goalkeeper, Liam Reddy, was sent back to Sydney due to his having been drunk on a fl ight to Wellington where his team was to play a
match. On arrival, Reddy allegedly refused to wait for teammates after collecting his bags and, when found by club offi cials after clearing customs, he was lying on the ground in an intoxicated state.
31 MARCH: CARDIFF, WALES Gavin Henson, a Cardiff Blues rugby player and Welsh media celebrity, was intoxicated on a Flybe fl ight from Glasgow to Cardiff. He had played in a match on Friday, which the Cardiff Blues lost, and then started a heavy evening of drinking which continued early the next morning. Henson made a public apology and described his own behaviour as inexcusable, but the Cardiff Blues sacked Henson a few days later regardless.
4 FEBRUARY: SURABAYA, INDONESIA A Lion Air pilot was arrested in his hotel room a few hours before he was to fl y to Makassar and was found to have 0.04 grams of crystal meth in an envelope in his possession; he later tested positive for the drug
6 FEBRUARY: ISLEWORTH, UK Asif Haroon, a 41-year-old Pakistan International Airlines fl ight attendant, was jailed for 32 months for trying to smuggle dozens of fake passports into the UK on
25 November 2011 whilst on crew duty. Haroon was found to be carrying, beneath his clothing, an envelope containing 39 Pakistan passports with counterfeit biodata pages or with biodata pages removed, around 250 counterfeit UK residence permits and a range of counterfeit UK passport components including biodata pages, laminates and holograms.
10 FEBRUARY: FRANKFURT Arid Uka was
sentenced to life in prison for the murder of two US airmen at Frankfurt Airport on 2 March 2011.
13 FEBRUARY: AMSTERDAM A 40-year-old Russian man was arrested by police having locked himself in the toilets at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport, claiming to have a bomb.

31 JANUARY: UDAIPUR, INDIA
Alexander Ralph Harper, a 21-year-old student from University of Otago, was arrested when screeners found three .22
rifl e cartridges in his baggage before he was to board a fl ight to Mumbai.
2 FEBRUARY: ISLEWORTH, UK Chinwendu Uwakaonyenma Ogbonnaya, a 29-year- old Arik Air fl ight
attendant, was sentenced to fi ve and a half years in prison, and faces deportation after her
conviction has been spent, for attempting to smuggle 2kgs of cocaine (with an estimated street value of £250,000) through London Heathrow on 18 December 2011.

14 FEBRUARY: PESHAWAR William Charles, employed at the US consulate at Peshawar, was stopped when found to be carrying 17 9mm pistols and numerous 9mm bullets. He was about to fl y on a Pakistan International Airlines fl ight to Islamabad. Charles has diplomatic immunity, so could not be arrested.
15 FEBRUARY: LONDON Two Ryanair adverts have been banned by the Advertising Standards Agency because they were deemed to be potentially offensive and linked cabin crew with sexual behaviour. The ads had already appeared in various UK
newspapers and had prompted 17 offi cial complaints.

15 FEBRUARY: ATLANTA Harold Duncan Jr., 21, of the Atlanta rap group Travis Porter, was arrested when found to be carrying a .45 calibre Glock in his hand-baggage.
16 FEBRUARY: USA Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab was sentenced to life in prison without parole after he pleaded guilty to attempting to blow up Northwest Airlines fl ight 253 on 25 December 2009.
16 FEBRUARY: PHILADELPHIA Shannon Gilliam, a 29-year-old TSA instructor, was charged having allegedly accepted a $200 bribe in order to ensure that a baggage screener passed an annual certifi cation test.
17 FEBRUARY: NEW YORK Dr. Luis Fandos, an anaesthesiologist, was charged in connection with a woman’s claim that she had been molested by him twice on board an American Airlines fl ight operating from Buenos Aires to JFK in January. She also stated that she had told the cabin crew that she wanted to change seats after the fi rst incident, in which Dr. Fandos is alleged to have groped her breast while she was sleeping, yet they would not allow her to. She then fell asleep again and claims that the next time she awoke she found Dr. Fandos’ hand on her thigh.
18 FEBRUARY: CHICAGO Willie Thomas, 51, was arrested when a handgun was found in his carry-on luggage at Midway Airport.
20 FEBRUARY: OKLAHOMA CITY James Heidebrecht was arrested at Will Rogers World Airport after he allegedly tried to break through

a security cordon in order to meet Newt Gingrich, one of the candidates seeking the Republican nomination to run for President. Gingrich was not at the airport at the time and Heidebrecht was released without charge.
22 FEBRUARY: READING, UK Shahzada Khan, a former British Airways baggage handler claimed, at an employment tribunal hearing, that he had been unfairly dismissed by British Airways because of his religion. He had been dismissed after security agencies found a plan to groom Khan to place a package on a plane bound for America. They had seen email correspondence >>>
