The only way to see the most stellar views of the Royal Gorge with- out paying admission is to rent a helicopter. We suggest you pay the admission. “We are a theme park, like many others, except we happen to
surround a natural wonder,” says general manager Mike Bandera. “Believe me, people aren’t disappointed.”

George Turner began building Tiny Town in 1915, and in its hey- day, the1920s, the town included 125 one-sixth scale buildings, many of them replicas of real Denver businesses. Turner added a coal-burning steam engine and fi ve cars. But as the years passed and ownership changed, the buildings fell into disrepair. The popular attraction opened and closed time and again. A recent facelift gave the attrac-
tion a fresh look, and Coloradans seem to like it. More than 100,000 people visit yearly, wandering by the schoolhouse, library, barber- shop, church, greenhouse, farm- houses, fancy mansions, even a replica of the old Denver Jail. “It’s a special place,” says man-
ager Elvira Nedoma, who also maintains and restores the build- ings as needed. “You don’t survive 97 years and all this place has been through if you’re just a tour- ist trap.”
