One of the fi rst things you look for while head- ing west on U.S. 24 from Limon is Pikes Peak. And along the way, you also see a series of bill- boards picturing Santa. The two are related, because on the road to the peak is a Christmas- themed amusement park. The North Pole/Santa’s Workshop opened
in 1956. Children who visited then have since brought their own children and grandchil- dren. This is a place for family tradition, with
Christmas-themed rides for children 12 and younger. “When we fi rst opened, we didn’t have any
rides,” says owner Tom Haggard. “Now we have 27 of them. There’s no video games, no TV, no electronics. Just families enjoying each other.”
