Junior Semester & Year Abroad St Andrews offers exciting opportunities for college students who want to come and study with us for a semester or a year.


Most students will apply to study abroad for their junior year, however, we also accept applications for sophomore and senior years as well.

Summer School for High School Students Each year in July North American high school students who have completed the tenth grade have a fantastic opportunity to come and study with us at St Andrews for four weeks. We are looking for students who have around a B+ average on a high school transcript.


International Science Summer Programme The University is also offering a Science programme for high school students who have successfully completed tenth grade or above. Subjects will include Mathematics and Statistics, Geography, Earth Sciences, Biology, Physics and Chemistry.

Entrance to the University of St Andrews is highly competitive and our entrance requirements reflect this. We are looking for well-rounded students who are global thinking, proactive and above all high academic achievers.


Entrance Requirements • Students should be taking a rigorous academic curriculum at college prep level or above.


• Students should achieve a A- / 89% average on their high school transcript or a minimum GPA of 3.6 on a 4.0 scale. Please note, we require school profiles to assess equivalent grades and GPAs.

External Testing Students are required to take some form of external test and depending upon which test a student takes the minimum requirements are as follows: SAT I (1950+ composite score), SAT II 600 + (prerequisite subjects 700 +), ACT (28+ composite score) and / or APs (4+).


Reference We require one academic reference.


Personal Statement This is an applicant’s opportunity to demonstrate their potential to succeed by describing the reasons which led to them applying for their choice of subject(s).


How to Apply The University operates a rolling admissions system between September and March.


Students may only use one method of application: Direct, UCAS or Common Application.


Common Application Students from the US who are applying to St Andrews as their only choice of UK university, may do so through the Common Application.
