Learning Experience
‘The course provided areas of interest that I had never considered. I developed a keen interest in water and water management, an area which I had never touched on before in my five previous years in college. I subsequently focused my minor thesis on water and its conservation. Within my dissertation, I examined the arguments behind the practicability of water metering and the methods of conserving water on the private side. I gained valuable experience in the application of a wide range of relevant subject matter from hydrological analysis to the use of GIS software.’ (Luke Hands, 2011).

During my Masters year I gained valuable experience in
completing projects that were relevant to the working environment.
Even though the country is in great economic difficulty, I started work with Roadbridge Civil & Construction Ltd a month after completing my Masters. My time as an undergraduate and a Masters student at GMIT has enabled me to suceed in my current career path. My activities include waste water management, surface water management, managing water treatment, construction waste management, reporting of oil/diesel spills on site, lighting and noise, air quality, climate, landscape and visual impact, material assets, soils, geology, hydrology and hydrogeology. I am very lucky to be working on the biggest construction site in Ireland and gaining valuable experience which would not be possible if I did not complete my Masters course.
