Alongside the positive transformation of our society, economic growth has led to additional waste, higher energy consumption and rising greenhouse gas emissions, threats to biodiversity and natural resources and to our built and natural heritage. The challenge, therefore, is to maintain growth and prosperity while avoiding environmental degradation and ensuring societal safety, health and welfare.


The MSc in Environmental Systems programme is designed to provide the practitioner with the knowledge and skills to meet these challenges in all sectors of society and the economy, through their work as environmental specialists.


What Will I Study?


The taught part of the Programme is composed of one mandatory modules

as well as seven electives (electives are only run if viable) chosen from the following list

On completion of these modules, students can choose to graduate with a Postgraduate Diploma in Environmental Sciences or complete a minor thesis in their chosen field in order to obtain the Master of Science.

Minimum entry requirement is normally a H2.2 in a level 8 degree in Science


or Engineering. International students are required to meet an English language standard equivalent to TOEFL (560) / IELTS (6.0).
