David Gaule Graduate 2011

I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Hotel & Catering Management in 2008. Upon graduating I was employed for over a

year when I was unfortunately made redundant. Finding employment in this industry in this economy was almost impossible, so I decided to return to college.

My obvious choice was GMIT as I had such a wonderful experience there the first time around. I returned to do the Postgraduate Diploma in Accounting, as accounting was a career that had always appealed to me. It was an extremely challenging year, but my lecturers gave me all the skills and knowledge required to successfully pass professional level exams. I was invited to interview for MKO Partners in Dublin upon completion of my exams and am now a Trainee Chartered Accountant with them. I’m studying for my CAP 2 exams, while gaining experience working in a wide range of sectors.

I found my experience in GMIT to be very positive. I have made lifelong friends during my time in GMIT, through classes and my involvement in the rugby team. My advice to anyone looking to get into accountancy would be to complete this postgraduate course as it offers excellent exemptions and will give you an advantage when applying for accountancy positions.
