What Will I Study?
This is a full-time programme of 12-months duration, commencing September 2013. The programme is structured around four taught modules plus research studies which can be oriented to individual student interests.
The taught modules for the 2013 - 2014 intake are: • Object Oriented Systems • Software Engineering • Advanced Databases • Forensic Computing
Students must complete all of the above taught modules, plus a prescribed set of research studies / modules; Research Methods (workshop) and Research Seminar. These two research-centric modules account for 20 of the required 60 credits necessary for the award of Master of Science. Their aim is to further dievelop core competencies in critical thinking, research techniques, research methodologies, technical writing and literature critique. The four taught modules (10 credits each) are examined through the traditional continuous assessment plus terminal examination structure, while the two research modules are examined via a combination of writing assignments (including the production of a full research paper to an international publication standard) and an oral (viva voce) examination. Students are supported in the development of their individual research topic throughout the academic year, and are required to complete their research studies and writings over the summer months, with submission and final examination in early September (2013).
