WORKSHOP SUPPLEMENT
With the help ofMetalcraft tools, college students showgreat enterprise
A COLLEGE recently found Metalcraft coldmetal working tools became a crowd puller. JamesDean, his colleagues,
and students at the engineering department at Neath Port Talbot College entered themselves into a Young Enterprise competition. They formed their own
company, Klassic Krafts, made items usingMetalcraft tools and began selling their creations at open days, fairs and to local shops. They created their ownmarketing literature and carried out their ownmanufacturing. JamesDean takes up the
story: “Originally,we bought equipment fromMetalcraft to encourage students old and young to join the college and learn newskills.Wewere surprised by the level of interestwe had during our open daywherewe showed what could bemade and did
demonstrations.” He added: “The photo
(right)was taken on our open day and I had two ofmy colleaguesmaking a candleholder to showthe crowd howeasy itwas to use Metalcraft tools. We had a lot of enquiries that day regarding our evening class formetalcraftwork but becausewe did not yet have an evening free to do it, I think itwill have to be run next year andmaybewe can set up a classroomwith the equipment. “We had a special trade fair
stand at IKEA in Cardiff and our Xmas Fayre inDecember and we are going to set a stall inNeath town in cooperationwith the council who are trying to promote ventures of this nature. We also have shops interested in displaying and selling our products on a sale or return basis. All a bit frightening to be honest!”
WARCOUNVEILS RANGE OF SMALLER LATHES
INADDITIONTOthe popular WarcoGH1322 andGH1330 (pictured)which are both established educational lathes, a newrange of smaller Warco lathes is about to be introduced. Initially therewill be two
versions – a straightforward belt drivemodel and a slightly larger infinitely variable speed lathewith power cross feed. AllWarco lathes are
comprehensively equipped with 3 and 4 jawchucks, fixed and travelling steadies, face plate and 4-way indexing toolpost. A huge range of optional equipment is available, including quick change tool post, revolving centre, tailstock drill chuck and indexable tip lathe tools. Safety features include interlock chuck guards,
interlock gear train/belt cover and telescopic lead screw covers.Warco provide foot operated stop switches for the smaller lathes. The larger lathes are fittedwith pedal operated spindle brakes.
