WORKSHOP SUPPLEMENT ‘
G&MTOOLSWANTSYOUR OLDWORKSHOP EQUIPMENT
G&MTOOLS are a small
company established in 1987 which specialises in buying redundant schoolworkshop equipment for recycling into the secondhandmarket. We deal regularlywith
schools all over the South East, London,Midlands,Wales and theNorth andwithmany local authority groups nationwide. With several hundred square metres of floor space to fillwe recyclemachines, workshop equipment and hand tools on a grand scale, and althoughwe did not originally see ourselves as ‘recyclers’, that iswhat in effect we are, and are proud to be. With the advent of digital
technology buying old school equipment for us became much easier – schools that
have unwantedmachines or tools just email photos andwe make offers –whereas formerly, dayswere spent driving round the country inspecting potential stock. So although our office is not as paperless aswemight have wished, computers do have their advantages! Reasons for disposal are
many – themachines are old fashioned andworn, they are not up to current health and safety standards, damaged or in some cases falling rolls have caused CDT departments to shrinkwith the closure of workshops.Often the engineering side of the syllabus is not as broad as it was formerly andmachines thatwere once used regularly are nowredundant. older hand craft skills amongst blacksmiths, potters, wood turners and variousmetal smiths havemeant thatwe have a readymarket for hand tools too.We buy quantities of anvils, tongs, vices and redundant casting equipment fromschools aswell as large quantities ofwoodworking tools such as planes, chisels, squares and similar items All are grist to ourmill and are one of the reasonswe started the business in 1987,whenwe planned to supply good used hand tools (which stemmed fromour personal interest in collecting) but soon led to us being offered older school
machines. What started as one or twomachines soon developed into an avalanche as the then newcurriculum changes took effect. Havingmade an acceptable
offer,we usually remove the equipment ourselves, with a minimumof inconvenience to the department concerned and, after cleaning and checking, offer the equipment for sale fromour Ashington, West Sussex premises and via ourwebsite:

way back into education, most goes to the legions of small firms up and down the country and even around Europewho cannot afford newmachines.
