Spring is in the air and as the winter blues fade away there’s every reason for optimism in the short breaks and short haul
holiday markets. Here at Selling Short Breaks & Holidays our commitment to informing and supporting this market is stronger than ever. We are delighted to announce the appointment of Alex Rogers as our new dedicated account manager for this sector. Alex’s role within our team is to build relationships with short haul destinations and product providers. He joins us with considerable short haul experience under his belt, having previously worked for villa specialist Think Sicily. He’ll be part of our team at ITB in Berlin, in March, where we’ll be out in force to gather you all the latest news and product information on Germany and beyond. Take a fresh look at our online training partner,
Travel Uni, and you’ll fi nd it now also covers a wide selection of short haul destinations (full details on page 34).
Going for Gold The potential for summer sales seems strong. With only six months to go until London 2012, ABTA research suggests around 2.5 million people will take time off work to attend Olympic, or related, events, and overall 40% of the British public are expected to take time off during the Games (July 27 to August 12). Check out our Channel Islands focus (page 14) and UK Holidays feature (page 31) for ways to capitalise on this potential domestic holidays boom. This is set to be one of the busiest times of the year for travel, not just within the UK but also abroad, as many also fi x plans to escape the UK sports-fest. For inspirational ideas of where to send them check out our features on Malta (page 20), Egypt (page 29) and Jordan (page 8) - all three are actively courting UK travellers.
