ONTARIO Feature Ontario

UP CLOSE & PERSONAL Agents know that nothing helps boost knowledge and understanding of a destination better than a well-organised fam trip. Agents and operators on a recent

fam hosted by Ontario Tourism had their perceptions transformed by the experience. Check out their feedback and their insights on how to better sell the province.

ALFREDO BENEDICTO, Global Travel à La Carte “Ontario is not always perceived as a

destination in its own right but there was a much wider choice of activities available than I had expected. I will definitely be recommending it to families and couples. I loved the canoeing and can also see huge potential for a wonderful mountain biking adventure in Algonquin.”

GEMMA RUTT, Wexas “Suggest the Muskoka region for golf and relaxation and then a

boutique stay at Niagara-on-the-Lake, which is the perfect place for a nice relaxing week and would be much more appealing than downtown

CAROLINE MONKS Cosmos “Ontario really is a destination for all

seasons. There is always something going on, from film festivals to the cranberry harvest. "There’s an incredible diversity in the

range of things to do. I now realise how important it is to recommend more time in the province. "Niagara Falls are about two hours

Niagara Falls. This is also a very good destination for families. There is a lot that children can get involved in and the outdoor activities, among lovely scenery, are fabulous. "I’m a bit of a foodie and was very

impressed with the food in Ontario. I absolutely loved the St Lawrence Market in Toronto. The whole place was just so colourful and everything was so fresh I just wanted to buy everything and start cooking!”

Pictured: Kayaking in Algonquin National Park; A restaurant seat with a view in the CN Tower, Toronto; Toronto by night

drive from Toronto and there is a lot to do once you are there so clients really should allow at least two or three days just to do this area. "It was so good to get first-hand experience of the Maid of the Mist, Niagara’s Fury and Journey behind the Falls. Having seen it, I have a much better understanding of everything Niagara offers.”

HEIDI TURFREY, Tailor Made Travel “My first thought was always to sell Toronto

with Niagara Falls but clients do often want to combine cities, sights, national parks and wildlife opportunities. They are open to longer itineraries that are good value and having been I will definitely be encouraging people to stay in the province for longer.

Ontario really will exceed expectations. I will definitely be recommending it, especially for self- drive tours around the east coast and as a stopover option for those going to the Rockies and the West. I loved the helicopter over Niagara Falls, it was really spectacular and I don’t think any client would ever be disappointed with that!"

PRUE TOMLINSON, Thomas Cook “I will definitely be recommending clients

go further afield and explore more than just Niagara and Toronto as there is so much more to see and do. Clients often choose West Coast Canada because they think that is the place for more adventurous activities. They don’t realise how many similar opportunities are available in Ontario.
