Engage in various discussions on the topic as you visit several institutions involved in Cuban education today. At Casa Verde in Havana, talk with experts about the role of education in the restoration and preservation of Cuba’s historic architecture. Meet with members of the Federation of Cuban Women (FMC) on issues affecting women and education in Cuba; have lunch at the historic Hotel Nacional de Cuba. The Latin American School of Medicine (ELAM), which trains international medical students from outside Cuba who then return home to serve their underprivileged communities, is a key part of Cuba’s healthcare system and one of the largest medical schools in the world. Talk with students and faculty from the school about ELAM’s mission, medical education in Cuba, and student life at this unique institution.
