Day 3: Culture through the arts Ernest Hemingway loved Cuba and its people, who returned that affection. Discuss the novelist’s life and work here with a local historian; travel to the fishing village of Cojimar, inspiration for The Old Man and the Sea; and pay a guided visit to Finca Vigia (“Lookout Farm”), Hemingway’s home from 1939 to 1960, where his yacht Pilar is on display. After a paella lunch in Habana Vieja, view the memorabilia in Room #511 of the Hotel Ambos Mundos, a favorite Hemingway haunt. As you walk through Old Havana in small groups, discuss the role of the entrepreneurial spirit in the area’s rebirth with a local expert. An organic orchard and restaurant host tonight’s demonstrations and discussions of Cuban cuisine, wine, organic growing methods and private enterprise in Cuba, followed by dinner. Meals BLD
