Q: Are you looking at Green Building certifications such as LEED for Al Jalila? A: The hospital is being developed to the highest standards of eco-friendly development. Some of the energysaving initiatives include: Sustainable construction techniques to reduce energy use An active wall façade system to reduce ambient temperature inside the hospital Rooftop gardens that provide greater insulation The hospital will use recycled water for irrigation purposes. We will work towards relevant green certifications in due course.
Q: What is the development value of Al Jalila Children’s Speciality Hospital? A: The total development value is AED 673 million and we expect the construction to be completed in 26 months.
Q: What constituted the first phase? A: The planning aspects as well as physical work including ground levelling comprised the first phase of the hospital. The architects

and interior designers of the project is Studio Altieri International.
Q: What is the total area and built- up area?
The total area of the hospital is over 98,000 sqm and the total built up area is 76,500 sqm, of which the hospital surface spans over 55,000 sqm.
Q: What is special about the hospital’s design? A: The hospital is being designed to the highest standards of eco-friendly development. Of the total area, nearly half has been earmarked for gardens and landscaping including a ‘healing garden’ with bright flowering shrubs and herbs and medicinal plants. The use of natural light, greenery and healing landscape are aimed at offering a high level of indoor air quality, reducing noise and creating a pleasant environment. Well-connected departments, single bedrooms and a family-centred approach set the hospital apart. The hospital follows a horizontal layout
plan, which will enhance the efficient and non- intrusive interaction between the patients and their parents. The design, architecture and décor elements aim to stimulate the participation
and imagination of children through visual aids, interactive touch-surfaces, imaginative shapes, and by integrating arts, music and nature. The other key facilities at the hospital
are Imaging & Radiology, Nuclear Medicine, an advanced clinical laboratory, emergency department, operating theatres, neonatal intensive care unit, burn unit, endoscopy facilities, rehabilitation and pharmacy, among others.
Q: What are specialities to be offered by the hospital? A: Al Jalila Children’s Specialty Hospital is envisaged to offer the full spectrum of care for children – from newborns to 16-year- olds. It will have several centres of excellence dedicated to cancer care, cardiology, neurology and mental health, among other specialities.
Q: What are the facilities to be offered by the hospital? A: The 200-bed hospital will have 40 incentive care units, six dialysis facilities, 20 healing centres, 12 training rooms, eight operating theatres, 30 clinical and non- clinical departments, over 3,750 biomedical equipment and fixtures. Other facilities include a multipurpose activities room for children. ■
