ndia has vast potential as a health and wellness tourism destination. This is backed by its medical facilities and world- class doctors and hospitals, ancient healing systems such as Ayurveda and other rejuvenating programmes, coupled with


modern medical amenities. India is a perfect destination for medical tourism because it combines health treatment with visits to some of the most alluring and awe-inspiring places in the world. A growing number of tourists


are done using the latest, technologically advanced diagnostic equipment. The cost of infertility treatments in India is almost a quarter of that in developed nations. The economic slowdown and healthcare


under-insurance in America rendered one million people redundant causing an alarming increase in its citizens travelling abroad. Canada gives its citizens medical insurance, claims to which might take months and months of waiting, causing increase in people


and by the lower cost of treatment in India compared with developed countries. Moreover, India is just about three hours away, making it easier for patients to visit even for follow-ups – offering unmatched proximity and value-for-money. It is understood that around 750,000 Americans leave the United States every year to go abroad for life-saving operations. Why? Mainly because of cost. Surgery can be up to a tenth of the cost in other countries, such as India.


It is generally felt that medical tourism to India is being driven by a lack of available healthcare in neighbouring countries and by the lower cost of treatment in India compared with developed countries
