Homecoming 2011 Highlights Celebrating 125 Years of Acade
Homecoming 2011 was a great success with more than
13,000 alumni and friends returning to campus over the course of five days. All in attendance had a fulfilling experience.
Wednesday evening, the CSU Chorus entertained a
standing-room-only audience in the Paul Robeson Cultural and Performing Arts Center. The chorus received rave reviews.
Alumni returned Thursday in record numbers to partici-
pate in the Fourth Annual Alumni Classroom Visitation Day and Alumni Awareness Fair. The Mr. & Miss CSU Corona- tion Ceremony held Thursday evening was simply spectacular.
Friday proved to be an action-packed day with the Vendor
Fair, the College of Business 13th Annual Scholarship Golf Outing, and the CSU-Dayton Open House. The evening was accented with the Annual Athletic Hall of Fame Dinner. The 2011 inductees are Curtis Anderson ’79 – Football; Sheba Harris ’02 – Women’s Basketball; Melvin Lunsford ’73 – Football; and Henderson Mosley ’07 – Football. The General Alumni Association balanced the evening with a well-attended “Diamonds & Denim” Dance.
Alumni and friends enjoyed a wonderful Fellowship Breakfast Saturday morning sponsored by the General Alumni Associa- tion (GAA). Thereafter, the newHarry G. Johns Living Learning Center was dedicated in honor of Mr. Harry G. Johns, a most beloved former CSU administrator. The annual Homecoming Parade included more than 1,000 participants, setting the stage for the battle between Southwest Baptist University and CSU football game. As usual, the Greek Step Show was a very popular post-game event.
Saturday evening the Victoria Theatre in downtown Dayton was the perfect venue as alumni and friends were thoroughly entertained by The Legendary Count Basie Orchestra. Later the GAA held its annual Alumni Dance at the Crowne Plaza Dayton Hotel. Well-known comedian, Huggy Lowdown, made a special guest appearance leaving everyone in stitches.
Homecoming 2011 culminated Sunday with the GAA Jazz Champagne Brunch. Charles A. Colbert ’74 was honored as the 2011 Alumnus of the Year for his tireless service and dedication to the University and GAA.
