Talented and enthusiastic young people aged between 16 and 19 have the chance to sample life as a journalist while soaking up the atmosphere and excitement of this summer’s London 2012 Paralympic Games.
An editorial team is being assembled for the Paralympic Post, a newspaper covering all the highlights and medal-winning achievements taking place at the London 2012 Paralympic Games. Young journalists from the UK and Germany will have access to and conduct interviews with athletes, politicians, dignitaries and celebrities visiting the Games to inform the articles they write. They will have full accreditation as journalists to the London 2012 Paralympic Games with the same access to the media suite and athlete areas as the international and UK media. The editorial team will be coached and supported by a team of professional journalists and the Paralympic Post will be distributed throughout the UK.
The Paralympic Post was first published during the 2004 Athens Paralympic Games and has been reporting on events in every Paralympic Games since. The newspaper aims to highlight the achievements of Paralympians as well as raising awareness of the importance of inclusion and equality.
The paper has won an array of awards, including the World Young Reader Prize in the category ‘Making the News’ awarded by the World Association of Newspapers and News Publishers (WAN-IFRA).

There will be a preparatory workshop for successful applicants in May 2012 at the NASUWT Headquarters in Birmingham.
The cost of transport, accommodation and meals during the workshop and the London 2012 Paralympic Games are covered.
Students who have reported for the Paralympic Post report overwhelmingly valuable experiences:
“I learned how underestimated these athletes are. People discriminate the strength these athletes have, and that's probably my biggest surprise of all. Hopefully this project will show them how meaningful the Paralympics can be!”
Florence Ng (17) reported on Alpine Skiing – Standing, Vancouver 2010
“The thing that has surprised me the most is how much I don’t know about the Paralympics. I really didn’t know anything at all! […] It was really eyeopening.”
Priscilla Korompis (16) reported on Alpine Skiing – Sitting, Vancouver 2010
“After this unique experience the bar was set so high that I will be forever comparing it to everything else.”
Zaga Gubash (16) reported on visually impaired Biathlon and Cross-Country Skiing, Vancouver 2010
