Aboard Carl Buchan’s Madrona, Lindsay Bergan expressed that, “One of the most engaging parts of the race was trying to get west and away from Des Moines.” Each boat would fight for clear air and those fortunate to get out in front like Chester Hibbert’s Jack Rabbit found a fresh breeze that carried them swiftly north. April Butler, aboard Paul Faget’s, Synergy 1000, Kilo, remarked “that playing the west was definitely the best strategy, particularly at the beginning of the race.” Lindsay Bergan added after the race, “that the best tactical call of the day was, by far, the hot sandwiches for lunch.” This was a sentiment felt across the fleet as we all took advantage of what little warmth we could find against each
