Letters Ebbing Not Flooding in Johnstone Strait Looking forward to more installments on your trip to


Alaska in 48 North. (January 2012, “Sail Alaska 2011” by Jim Rard). I’m probably not the first one to point out that the tide floods south through Seymour Narrows and Johnstone Strait. I kind of doubt you could have made a northward passage through Seymour at 16 knots on a full flood tide. Hope to visit the yard in Anacortes this spring, and also to get to the rendezvous in July.

Hi Alan, You win the prize, you were the first to catch my slipup. I could try and blame it on spelling, “e” and “f“are kind of close together. Flood sounds more foreboding for the story. Can I claim artistic license? I don’t think so.
