SSW Winter Newsletter

Reflecting on the past, looking toward the future… As SSW heads into 2012, we are taking time to not only look ahead to the future, but also to reflect on all that we have been a part of in the past year. 2011 was a very busy year, but a great one during which we learned a lot and grew as a company. 2012 promises to be an even better year as we look forward to meeting new clients, working on new projects, and achieving new goals as a company!

Amputee Coalition of America The Amputee Coalition of America is a national, non-profit amputee consumer educational organiza- tion representing people who have experienced amputation or are born with limb differences. The Amputee Coalition includes individual amputees, amputee education and support groups for ampu- tees, professionals, family members and friends of amputees, amputation or limb loss related agen- cies, and organizations. The Amputee Coalition operates on the strongly held principle that education

enables individuals who have lost a limb to participate knowledgeably in decisions about their own care, services and outcomes. To achieve their highest potential, people with limb loss must play the central role in decisions af- fecting their lives. Only then can they fully embrace life and its limitless opportunities for self-fulfillment.

Association of University Centers on Disabilities (AUCD) The Association of University Centers on Disabilities (AUCD) is a membership organization that sup- ports and promotes a national network of university-based interdisciplinary programs. These pro- grams serve and are located in every U.S. state and territory and are all part of universities or medi- cal centers. They serve as a bridge between the university and the community, bringing together the

resources of both to achieve meaningful change. AUCD envisions a future in which everyone, including people living with developmental and other disabilities, are fully integrated, participating members of their communities. They envision a future in which culturally appropriate supports that lead to independence, productivity, and a satisfying quality of life are universally available across the life span.
