Unfortunately, this perception of ques- tionable competence is still held by some opposing counsel and certain judges. But, we can overcome their lack of faith by being prepared, diligent, professional and performing at the highest possible level when trying a case. I do think there is something that
male trial lawyers cannot do to female trial lawyers – men cannot come across as bullying women. I have seen jurors pun- ish male trial lawyers for being mean or abusive to female trial lawyers. No one likes a bully and people like it even less so when it’s a man bullying a woman. On the other hand if you are a
female trial lawyer and opposing counsel is a man who is being a bully, don’t ever lose your cool. The jury is very likely to have your back and you should trust them with it. It is not possible to decide you are
going to be like Chris Spagnoli, Simona Farisse, Gary Dordick, Chris Dolan or anyone else when you try cases. You have to be yourself when you try cases. You will win some and you will lose some, as we all do. But, with passion and effort, along the way you will become the best trial lawyer you can be.
