WHAT’S NEW Mimaki offers quality and speed Enfocus adds Lion support
Mimaki is set to launch a new 1.8m wide, production dye sublimation printer, the TS34-1800A which has been designed specifically for the sublimation printing market with high speed and quality in mind. Sublimation transfer printing is widely utilised for sportswear applications due to the elasticity and quick-drying capability of polyester material as well as in the growing market of soft signage applications, such as flags, retail point of sale and exhibition graphics.
With a staggered array of two newly developed print heads, the Mimaki TS34-1800A is capable of printing up to 32sq m/hr at 540 x 720 dpi. In addition to this significant production speed, the machine can achieve a printing speed of 17.7sq m/hr in six colour mode at the same resolution, where customers have a requirement for superior quality prints, with smooth gradations of tone and colour.
These features make the TS34-1800A suitable for both large-sized soft signs and apparel applications, which respectively require a quick response and fine image quality.
In addition to this increased print speed and quality, various practical functions also contribute to the improved productivity of the machine by enabling automated continuous operation.

HP has introduced two HP Designjet printers capable of handling a broader range of indoor and outdoor signage applications with better durability than eco-solvent inks.
Furthering HP's strategy to disrupt the eco-solvent market, the 2.64m (104-inch) HP Designjet L28500 printer delivers speeds up to 70% faster than the HP Designjet L25500 Printer, while the 1.55m (61-inch) HP Designjet L26500 printer is ideal for customers entering the growing soft- signage market. Both systems feature new HP 792 Latex
Designjet inks, which produce rich blacks and glossy results on banners and self- adhesive vinyl, and offer double- sided printing capabilities with
less user intervention and more accurate, automated registration. Compatible with more than 500 media solutions, including the new HP double-sided HDPE reinforced banner material, HP Latex inks provide a consistent, reliable performance across a variety of substrates. HP has also launched HP Latex University, a set of training materials and application workshops led by industry experts, as well as the HP Ecosolutions Trained Printing Company programme for educating HP Latex Printing Technologies users in sustainability best practices. The HP Designjet L28500 and L26500 Printer series can print on a broad range of materials.

Enfocus has added support for the recently released Mac OS (X 10.7) Lion operating system to PitStop Pro and PitStop Server. In addition, Version 10 Update 3 of both PitStop Pro and PitStop Server includes new channel remapping capabilities and more power, control and flexibility with respect to colour conversion. “Printing firms are still receiving PDF documents that contain unwanted or incorrect spot colour separations,” said Leen Vanmaele, Product Manager. “With the new Channel Remap functionality included in Update 3 of PitStop Pro 10 and PitStop Server 10, unwanted spot colour separations can easily and accurately be replaced with another spot colour or with a specific CMYK colour. This is important for
increasingly time-sensitive workflows, minimising the potential for expensive errors in the printed job.”
Channel Remap allows users to easily replace an unwanted spot colour with the correct spot colour, remove a spot colour channel altogether, convert a CMYK colour to a spot colour, or convert a spot colour to CMYK as appropriate.
In PitStop Pro 10 Update 3, Remap Channels can be accessed through Remap Colours within the Global Changes menu and are also accessible from within Action Lists.

Screen UK partners with Roland
Screen UK has partnered with Roland DG (UK) to add a powerful yet cost-effective UV- curable platform to its existing wide- format product family. This agreement will result in greater penetration for
Screen UK into the display and flexible packaging prototyping market segments which complements the company’s existing systems for the inkjet, offset and flexo markets.
The Roland VersaUV LEJ-640 is a combination flatbed and roll-fed wide- format printer designed and manufactured for high standards of finish on a variety of applications where durability and excellent ink adhesion are required. It incorporates CMYK, white and clear making it ideal for customised graphics and displays as well as packaging prototypes. The addition of the VersaUV LEJ-640 to Screen’s current product portfolio of inkjet solutions brings a high quality but low investment point to users who either want an auxiliary machine or who are entering the digital wide format market for the first time. The inclusion of white ink makes it ideal for working with non-white and transparent materials, such as window films, whilst the clear varnish can be used to generate special finishes and textures.
