Winter & Spring Happenings Center Stage
Art, dance, music and more mark the four-month Distinctively Dutch Festival, Feb. 18 - June 10, presented by the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust. It opens with the U.S. premier of Anatomica by Dance Works Rotterdam at the Byham Theater on February 18. This one-of- a-kind festival features art, dance, technology and film presented in a cutting-edge way that is, well, distinctively Dutch!
Creativity and innovation are essential strands of the Dutch DNA, as well as the core of Pittsburgh’s remarkable cultural transformation. From Dutch masters like Rembrandt, Van Gogh and Mondriaan, to Pittsburgh’s own Andy Warhol, Art Blakey and Rachel Carson, both regions have proven to be fertile ground for artists and thinkers who are true innovators.
Dance Works Rotterdam: Anatomica
The heat is on in the original Amazing Race! Around the World in 80 Days, presented by Pittsburgh Public Theater, is on stage at the O’Reilly Theater, April 12-May 13. The year is 1872 and Phileas Fogg has accepted a bet to travel the globe in record time in Jules Verne’s classic novel brought to life on the Public’s stage. Five actors play dozens of outrageous characters in this mini-epic show that’s filled with wild excitement.
