Well, you can’t go back in time, but you can own a nice model of what once was. While many models to- day come in “batches,” the parlor ob- servation car is presently listed on the BLI website along with the rest of the SP Daylight cars. gondola in late 1979 primarily for trans- porting steel mill products. The car had all-welded construction with a steel floor and fixed ends. It had a rated capacity of 190,000 pounds or 3,242 cubic feet. The car’s dimensions were: inside length of 65′-6″, inside width of 9′-0″, inside height of 5′-6″, length over coupler pulling faces 70′-11″, extreme width 9′- 11″, and an extreme height 9′-1″. The car sides had 16 pressed-steel corrugated panels and 17 vertical side posts. The corrugated side panels pro- vided greater strength than flat pan- els, enabling the steel thickness of the corrugated panels to be thinner, there- by reducing the car’s empty weight by approximately 1,500 pounds.
