Ken Larson’s layout also fea- tures spectacular scenery, although the set- ting–California–is further west. Ken mod- els the Westside Lumber Company in On3 and his layout includes a number of inter- esting models, such as this scratchbuilt railcar (below). Diminutive Shay No. 4 switches the Consolidated Republic Mining Company mill on Greg Wright’s ³₈n20 layout (page 77, top). Greg’s layout was featured in the December, 2008, issue of RMC.


2012 National Narrow Gauge Convention preview


A look at some of the layouts that will be open for viewing/Paul Scoles T


he 32nd Annual National Nar- row Gauge Convention will be held in Bellevue, Washington


(the greater Seattle area), September 12th through the 15th of 2012. The convention will feature a large number of layout tours of both narrow gauge and standard gauge railroads, includ- ing several that are well known. In some cases the 2012 convention may well be the last chance to see some of these fine layouts and the modelers who built them in person since people do retire and move to new homes out of the area.


An extensive line-up of clinics will be offered by an all star cast of presenters who will cover topics that will appeal to a broad range of interests. A partial list can be found on the convention’s website now, with more to come soon. In addition, several prototype rail- roads and museums will be open and offer special programs and rides for at- tendees. Back at the convention facility everyone will find it to be one of the
