The Scenery Clinic: Pt. XXI: Final details


Rix Products poles and Berkshire Junction’s EZ Line were used for the phone and power lines. The crossarms (aboveand oppo- site) were cut shorter for the electrical wires. Details like the wires and the power transformers make a scene look right because they


are a normal part of our daily travels; they should be included on a layout when possible. Barrels, pallets and discarded machinery parts accumulate in alleys (below left) and they also “give life” to loading docks, as at the 5 Star Manufacturing plant (below right).


light gray, then weathered. The pumps, oil drums and display rack behind the worker all came from JL Innovative Design but were not part of the kit. Other details here came from Merit, a company in the United Kingdom. Fig- ures are from Preiser and Merten, and the car is by Mini Metals.


Two of the photos shows the rear of the gas station where numerous de- tails are scattered about. The automo-

bile service ramp was scratchbuilt from styrene (okay, I couldn’t control myself), while the tires came from Mer- it. The laser-cut fence is from Bar Mills (I wish they made it in S scale), and the dumpster is a Kibri product. The auto on the ramp and the “Auto Parts” panel truck came from Mini Metals. The Elizabeth Iron Works features a

at steel fabricators. The scene also has a forklift from GHQ, a truck tractor from Lee Town, and a brass Northern Pacific boxcar from Challenger Im- ports. Behind the iron works is a ma- chinery scrap pile, with all the scrap coming from my junk box. These are all white metal castings that I painted Roof Brown and coated liberally with Rust-All. I glued the all the parts down with Aleene’s Tacky Glue. (Detailing a
