bit to drill holes for the BLMA parts. A firecracker antenna was made from a length of .008″ brass wire and a piece of decoder wire insulation cut to size and dabbed in black paint. At the same time, the locations for the horn and an- tenna were drilled out according to photos.


I had originally intended to keep the


stock handrails, but realized that they were substantially oversized, and the stanchions and handrail curvature did not match the Rock Island prototype. So, I set about modeling the rebuilt handrails by drilling No. 77 holes in the sill and, using cyanoacrylate ce- ment, glued the stanchions where they were located on the prototype. After


they dried, .008″ phosphor-bronze wire was soldered to the handrail stan- chions for a secure bond. I removed the small Alco-style num- ber boards from the nose and cut and filed a slot into the hood to fit the mod- ified F-unit number boards from JnJ. The rear of the number boards were also filed to a flat profile to fit the re-
