President’s Perspective
BILL BOATMAN, CRB
I hope everyone had a great holiday season!
Our Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays were just wonderful and filled with lots of family, food, and —oh, yes — time with our precious first grandchild. I know that for those of you who have many grandchildren you are saying, “Get over it,” but there is something special about the first. Kathy and I are so blessed!
Our 2012 leadership team’s tenure actually began after the NAR Annual Conference and Expo in Anaheim, Calif., last November, and we have already been very busy. I am fortunate to be serving with this group of professionals. In December we enjoyed a spirited leadership conference with all officers, regional directors, and committee chairs and vice chairs. It was a productive day and I thank all who participated. Georgia REALTORS have very committed leaders!
The first few months I’ve been privileged to serve have been very enlightening. Allow me to share a few observations and attributes of those I have met at events:
• Georgia REALTORS truly are the “Best of the Best.” You are engaged, professional, giving, caring, knowledgeable, and yet wanting to get better.
• Georgia REALTORS are resilient and persevering. They see real estate as a career and not a short term part time job.
This is as it should be. But as I visit our local boards around the state, it burdens me that I don’t see more of us at the events, lunches, and breakfasts ... why? I fear there are many in our ranks that have become complacent. Most likely the difficult market conditions have attributed to this. Now is a great time to turn this condition around. We need our members active and engaged. This is where the strength of the REALTOR organization lies. All it takes is for you to invite one person from your office to attend the next REALTOR association event. You don’t have to go far, as they are likely just next door to you. Do it!
Those that aren’t engaged begin to question the value of their REALTOR membership. It’s like purchasing a ticket to Disney World, parking your car in the parking lot, but never entering the gate. You go home and tell your friends, “I don’t get it, what’s the big hoopla?” Well, there is no way to receive the full value unless you come inside. Invite a REALTOR friend to come inside today!
We continue to get great reviews on the Tech Helpline. If you haven’t used it, do so today by calling 877.573.5611. Also, our Inaugural Meeting at The Grand Marriott in Point Clear, Ala., is just a few weeks away. Our staff has negotiated great room rates at just $169.00 per night. Our Key note Address will be given by renowned speaker Stefan Swanepoel, who will also enlighten our Leadership Connection with his Real Estate Trends. There will be great education, networking, and plenty of fun. I hope you will be there!
Looking forward to a great 2012,
BILL BOATMAN, CRB
