1/6 Scale Nieuport 28

The Nieuport 28 is probably best known for being the first American fighter of World War I despite being a French built aircraft. The Nieuport 28 served valiantly with the 27th, 94th, 95th, and the 147th Aero Squadrons of the AEF (American Expeditionary Force). Many America’s first aces such as Eddie Rickenbacker, Doug Campbell and Reed Chambers scored early victories while flying the Nieuport 28 in the deadly sky’s over France during the early months of 1918.

Built by the Thomas-Morse Aircraft Corporation located in

, the Thomas Morse S-4C Scout affectionately known as “T

ommy” by the men who flew it, is probably the best known American built single seat aircraft of the First World War.

While most recently starring in the movie “Fly Boys” the Nieuport 17 got its start in the skies over France back in 1916! Though not a true biplane the Nieuport’s “sesquiplane” (one and a half wing) configuration combined the strength and

maneuverability of a biplane with the speed of a monoplane to create one of the

aircraft of World War I, a tribute to the Sopwith design philosophy of simple and aerodynamically clean structure. Pilots who flew this aircraft apparently

looked upon it as an offspring of the 1-1/2 Strutter and dubbed it as the “Pup.” Its little known official name is the Sopwith Type 9901. Our model is a faithful reproduction of this early aircraft.
