Prof Aart Boessenkool, Director of Commercialisation, University of Johannesburg told the Edge, “Innovation is not a single act; it is the ability to put creative insight to practical use to make something better. As a learning institution we should not only teach the principle of innovation, but act as catalyst for innovators to implement this new, better step forward.”

Denel Dynamics CEO, Jan Wessels will represent Denel on the Technology Council. “We believe this forum will build solid links to the Department of Science and Technology,” informs Wessels. “Scientific development is crucial to the successful implementation of technological innovation in the future. We hope to be able to influence inter-governmental co-ordination, extract guidance and ensure the national prioritisation of critical scientific and industrial developmental initiatives aimed at achieving strategic technology and associated human capital development objectives.”

Riaz Haffejee, Executive: Strategic Accounts Mobile has said “Vodacom is driven by innovation. Key to the future of South Africa is how innovation energizes industry and promotes economic growth. This leads to positive change and opens opportunities to enhance people’s lives and as a supporter of the TT100, the commitment to develop innovation across South Africa allows Vodacom to bring it’s passion and experience to this initiative.”

Clearly there are a number of reputable and highly regarded South African organisations which recognise the value of innovation. As organisations they too demonstrated innovation in the way in which they manage their businesses.
