The story of Altech Multimedia is one of vision, hard work and long term investment in leading skills and intellectual property development. Being consistently in the forefront of digital technical innovation has enabled us to capture a significant global market share. The changing economic and commercial environments in the consumer electronic industry has however meant a transformation of the business over the last year. Peter Balchin, CEO of Altech Multimedia has been at the forefront of this transformation, fully supported by Altech CEO, Craig Venter.
“Altech Multimedia’s industry know-how and experience has allowed us to quickly adapt to the changing markets in which we operate and extend our product and service offering to address the converged space’s complex value chain, while allowing our customers to focus on their core business,” said Balchin.
Acknowledged as a successful electronics manufacturing company in Kwa Zulu- Natal, Altech UEC has transformed into Altech Multimedia, comprising different lines of business and regional entities namely: Altech UEC, Altech MediaVerge, Altech SetOne and Altech GDL. In the past 12 months Altech Multimedia has restructured and re-skilled the organisation, aggressively extending its capabilities and capacity for services in the broadcast and telecommunications sectors.
Africa is a strategic region for Altech Multimedia. As this region has proved to be complex and challenging business environment, Altech UEC was realigned to focus on delivering unique products, services and solutions for the region. This includes both service and end-to-end solution delivery but also manufacturing services within Africa. 2011 saw the opening of a new state of the art manufacturing facility to replace the 15 year old former facility in Durban, South Africa, to cater for the region’s specific requirements. Remaining a key member of the Altech Multimedia family, Altech UEC is afforded the opportunity to not only grow and develop independently for Africa, but is positioned to consolidate and learn from first world environments such as Australia and Europe. To support Altech Multimedia’s international
strategy and to address convergence within the multimedia market, offices have been established in Europe and Australia to focus on those specific markets. To support this strategy and strengthen the service offerings, Altech Multimedia acquired a German based pioneer in DVB-based products and solutions, Altech SetOne. “
Engaging with SetOne will bring dynamism, entrepreneurial spirit and quality of service to our existing and future customers in Europe. SetOne’s location in the heart of Europe constitutes a good solid foundation for our strategy in Europe,” said Balchin.
Through a combination of strategic partnerships, acquisitions and recruitment, Altech Multimedia is positioned to provide immediate and additional expert capacity. Furthermore, Altech Multimedia is cross-skilling and up-skilling existing resources as part of its restructured project management, design, development and delivery functions. As such, Altech Multimedia’s technical competencies are now service-based and are continually being supplemented with additional business and professional skills to create innovative services and product offerings, ranging from turnkey delivery services through to fully outsourced managed services to the broadcast and broadband environment. “
Our people are what makes the difference and their commitment and hard work is the foundation of our success” said Balchin.
By adopting an approach of standard work packages, focused delivery teams and robust programme/project management methods and procedures, Altech Multimedia is driving reduced time to market and ensuring quality of the end solution. “
The application of a service-based organisational architecture internally is the cornerstone of providing the same services and solutions externally to the benefit of all involved” says Balchin.
