NEAT Fair 2011

Weighing roughly 2 pounds, George Fabbiani’s 42.5-inch Dynam A-10 (above) takes to the air pushed by twin 64mm fans. Mark Freeland, of Retro R/C, is proud of his au couture e-Moth (at right, top). He covered it with some flamboyant dress fabric. Lisa Landis (at right, below) is one of the Landis family pilots. She holds her dad’s Flyzone F-20 Tigershark, which she launched for him. It’s one of NEAT’s traditions to see Arnold Wyle’s Park Hawk(below) flap into the air. The original kit used a brushed motor which Arnold has updated with a brushless.

After completing my registration, I promptly set up “camp” by parking Jess the Jeep and assembling my shade tent and pit area. I say “camp” in the loosest sense of the term, as I was ill equipped to call my hum- ble area a camp. Mixed along the flight line could be the simplest camp consisting of just

a tent and a fire pit all the way to a RV com- plete with all the amenities of home … with the added bonus of a full scale grass runway outside of your door. Because NEAT is held at the Peaceful Valley Campground in Shin- hopple, NY, it has cabins that can be rented too and plenty of camping lots. I think it is

safe to say, that the attendance of modelers, their spouses, children and dogs was bigger than the population in Shinhopple! Friday is technically when the festivities

begin, complete with noon demos, vendors selling their wares and constant flying of some of the most interesting aircraft one will

Despite the fact that it was an “ARF”, Ron Faanes put a lot of elbow grease into his ¹⁄₄ scale Tiger Moth(above left). There are 14 coats of hand brushed Nelson

paint on it. Hopefully Fred Backhaus’s 80-inch Top Notch Learfan(above right) will become an annual fixture at NEAT. He flies the sleek model beautifully.
