PS200 Portable Multi-Gas Detector Offers Rugged Reliability & Customisable Options

Industrial Safety Technologies, owner of Detcon (USA) and GMI, recently introduced the new PS200 portable multi-gas detector. The PS200 monitors and displays up to four hazardous gas conditions simultaneously. Both lightweight and durable, it uses catalytic bead sensor technology to monitor and detect a wide range of combustible gases, and electrochemical sensor technology to monitor and detect carbon monoxide, hydrogen sulphide, and oxygen deficiency.

Weighing no more than 8 ounces, the PS200 is housed in a sturdy, water resistant dust-proof case to ensure superior reliability and durability in harsh environments and confined spaces. Operator interface and calibration are intuitive and easy by simply toggling between one-button functions. During normal operation the high visibility LCD screen continuously displays battery life, real-time gas concentrations in ppm, and concentration of oxygen by percentage. Maximum and minimum gas concentrations for each sensor can also be programmed and monitored.

During hazardous conditions the LCD screen flashes red and users are alerted via three alarm functions: vibration alert, red flashing LEDs, and an aubible buzzer with low and high settings of up to 90db. The portable detector is also fitted with an optional man down/motion sensor that activates alarms if the instrument is not moved at a pre-set time. Another option is a remote sampling pump ideal for use in confined spaces.

The PS200 features a screen backlight that can be manually switched on in poor lighting conditions. Additional features include: customised user identification code setup, calibration due date display, and standard data logging that can be downloaded to a docking station via USB connection to a computer.

The PS200 has a continuous run time of more than 14 hours without the sampling pump, eight hours with the pump, and uses a lithium ion rechargeable battery. Maintenance of the portable gas detector is easy and requires no special tools to access the sensors and filters. It includes a standard 2-year warranty.

Is the gas mixture right? With the new gas analysis device MFA 9000 by WITT-Gasetechnik (gas technology) from Germany this question can now be answered in more detail by quality inspectors and service technicians than previously.

New and Upgraded Personal Protection and Gas Detection Solutions Unveiled at A+A International 2011

Honeywell (UK) recently launched a number of new and upgraded products in key personal protective equipment (PPE) categories, such as hearing protection, eye & face, clothing and gloves, and gas detection. The solutions were unveiled at the A+A International show, where Honeywell is represented by its Safety Products and Gas Detection groups – both part of the Honeywell Automation and Control Solutions’ Life Safety business.

At A+A, attendees saw for the first time how Honeywell’s Sperian Protection acquisition – finalised in 2010 – has been incorporated into Honeywell’s global safety products portfolio. The integration of Sperian gives Honeywell an unmatched range of head-to toe protection offerings as well as unprecedented scale and global reach. The business is focused on delivering innovative safety solutions for high-risk environments, driving sustained, safer outcomes, whatever the job or sector. Honeywell’s products also enable workers to perform their jobs with greater confidence, enhancing their ability to perform.

“Too many companies have seen workplace incidents damage employee morale, productivity, reputation, and ultimately, the bottom line and the company’s ability to remain competitive,” said Mark Levy, president and CEO, Honeywell Life Safety. “At Honeywell, we work closely with end users to address each and every exposure to risk they encounter, along with their need for efficiency and reliability. The introductions we’re making at A+A extend our portfolio and significantly strengthen Honeywell’s overall proposition in the life safety solutions industry. More importantly, they will help our customers to solve their safety challenges and improve workplace safety.”

The analyser that can be used for a vast multitude of applications is now capable of determining the composition of 13 mixtures from respectively two gases. The MFA 9000 analyses the common technical gases of nitrogen, carbon dioxide, argon, hydrogen, helium as well as methane. Operation is practically infallible: for WITT a selector lever with three keys is covers it all. In the digital display the measuring result will be shown in percent in respect of the gas combination or as ppm share (parts per million). "In contrast to other devices only the mixed gas to be determined is required for a measurement," informs the director of the sales department, Martin Bender. "The user thus does not need an additional reference gas."

The measurement follows the principle of thermal conductivity, a quick and precise method, with unlimited useful life of the measuring cell. As quickly as one second, is the time taken for the first result to be given. The deviance from the final value of the measuring range is only around one percent. The calibration is done by means of a standard 2-point calibration or in simplification with one gas. Due to its compact dimensions of just 240 x 231 x 230 mm (w x h x d) the new MFA 9000 can be used mobile, 230 V are needed for operation. The gas pressure may be in the range from 1.5 to 20 bar; the flow rate is 40-150 Nl/h.

Those who want to use the antirust stainless steel analyser permanently and stationary, will be served excellently: the MFA 9000 is capable of alarm functions, detects measuring errors and delivers its data via an RS232 interface on a PC by which the device can be completely controlled and even calibrated as well. Furthermore, an outlet with 4-20 mA is provided, which can be optionally expanded.
