Language quiz


THE winners of the whole school language quiz, who each received a certificate, £5 voucher, five merits and language-related stationery, were Tabitha Rusden and Tahira Clarke in Year 7 (Phoenix); Ben Morgan, Year 11 and Sahil Khan, Year 7 (Globe); Mohammed Sodias and Callum Sansam in Year 10 (Octagon); and Bradley Roberts and Ben Reid in Year 11 (Coliseum). Lia Tipote in Year 8 (Lowry) impressed her peers and PE teacher by leading a netball lesson in Portuguese, and Year 10 student Jawad Ahmed rose to the challenge of naming all 6,000 languages spoken throughout the world.


Linguist of the month


THE MFL faculty is rewarding a student each month in French, Spanish and Urdu for displaying a positive attitude to learning a language, working above their target level/grade or for making huge improvements in their language lessons. Will it be you next month?

Our commitment to fair trade


Accent on languages: Lia Tipote, Year 8.


FPHS is hoping to acquire Fairtrade status. We began the process at the beginning of the autumn term, and we have all year to meet the five goals that enable us to become a Fairtrade school. There will be Fairtrade


events throughout the year, which will be organised by our Year 10 students and the Fairtrade steering committee. The latter can be identified by their Fairtrade badges.

learnt when Falinge Park celebrated European Day of Languages in September. From language competitions and quizzes to designing a European Day of Languages’ T-shirt, FPHS showed off its multicultural and multilingual credentials. Staff greeted students throughout the day in different languages, including Arabic, Bengali, Dutch, Estonian, French, German, Hindi, Italian, Japanese and Mandarin.
