CESAB factory visit handling l
the working environment for the forklift operator and colleagues.
Investment in technology CESAB Material Handling’s European mast factory, LTE, has invested heavily in new technologies and processes over the last 12 months.
Part of the CESAB group, LTE is the European OEM that specialises in the design and production of CESAB forklift masts. The investment has included an internal material flow redesign to create a new more efficient layout and support the implementation of Just In Time and Kanban techniques. It has also enabled a new oxi-cut material warehouse to feed the four robot welding lines and a new assembly line able to reach a production capacity in excess of 15,000 masts per year in one shift.
CESAB masts are produced using the ISO 14001-certified Toyota Production System (TPS), one of the world’s best production systems which guarantees the highest standards in manufacturing quality. Principles of TPS include Just In Time to ensure flow standardisation and optimisation, Jidoka which ensures quality control in each manufacturing phase, and Kaizen to deliver continuous improvement.
Masts available on the CESAB range and manufactured at LTE now include two- to four-stage duplex, triplex and quadruplex configurations all produced to the highest quality standards. LTE’s Research and Development team has decades of experience in mast design and technology, enabling it to work closely with customers to provide highly specialised masts and all new equipment is tested in LTE’s Department of Test and Experience, to ensure performance and durability are of the highest standards.
Factory manager Vanni Righi says:
“The level of investment in LTE in the last year reflects our commitment to producing the best masts in the industry. With our production capacity set to increase significantly, we have created a mast operation in Europe that will ensure CESAB Material Handling equipment delivers to the very highest standards.”
My tour of the LTE facility made me reconsider the

concentrate on the area in which the driver sits and what lies below the seat. CESAB has a different approach, starting and finishing at the mast, which is after all the business end of any fork lift truck. A commitment to IMHX 2013 (see page 26) and a successful campaign to increase its UK dealer coverage highlights CESAB as a name to watch in this country. With excellence in design and engineering at the heart of the company helping it to produce high- quality, reliable products, it will be fascinating to watch the gains CESAB makes in the UK and beyond. ●

Founded in 1976, it now employs more than 200 people. LTE designs and produces customised masts for every model of CESAB forklift, ranging from small 24volt 3-wheel trucks to the 8.5 tonne capacity CESAB B800. Masts produced include two- to four-stage duplex, triplex and quadruplex configurations. To date, LTE has manufactured over 100,000 CESAB masts.
Investment in the site over the last 12 months includes:
An internal material flow redesign to create a new layout and support the implementation of Just In Time and Kanban techniques;
A new oxi-cut material warehouse to feed the four robot welding lines; A new assembly line to reach a production capacity of 15,000 masts per year in one shift.
The factory is at the heart of CESAB’s Intelligent Mast Design (IMD) which offers a range of features that ensure greater visibility, less noise and more productivity from fork lift trucks. LTE’s Research and Development team has decades of experience in mast design and technology, enabling it to work closely with customers to provide highly customised masts.
All new equipment is tested in LTE’s Department of Test and Experience, to ensure performance and durability are of the highest standards.
Fork carriages produced at the factory include standard FEM, integral side shift FEM, integral pin type fork positioners FEM and integral pin type fork positioners with integrated forks.
