distribution pallets l
Jim Hardisty, managing director of
Goplasticpallets.com, explains how choosing the right type of pallets for export consignments can spare businesses unnecessary hassle, expense and embarrassment.
Hassle-free exports W
ith confidence in the economy at an all-time low, minimising exposure to financial risk is more important
than ever. For exporters, spending a small amount of time considering the type of pallets they’re using could pay off in the long run.
Most exporters will be aware that timber pallets travelling between over
40 different countries must be specially heat treated and officially accredited in accordance with the international regulation ISPM15*, which covers the import and export of timber pallets. However, they might not know that ISPM15 compliance issues have stalled supply chains on a number of occasions in the last few years, resulting in goods exported on wooden pallets being seized by
overseas port authorities. In June this year, the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (AQSIQ) in China was intercepting export consignments from Europe because articles of Wood Packaging Material (WPM – pallets, crates, etc) were found to have country codes within the ISMP15 mark that did not relate to the country of re-export.
