Arco, a supplier of safety equipment, has stocked up on winter products and launched an expert guide on how businesses should prepare for winter with the right workwear and equipment to weather any storms and freezing conditions and provide a safe working environment.

Winter warner T

o help ensure everyone enjoys a safer winter working environment, Arco has stocked up on all the items necessary for winter, such as de-icing salt, salt spreading equipment and snow shovels, so that well prepared businesses will have everything they need to keep exterior access routes and car parks clear and minimise risks caused by snow and ice, in particular slips, trips and falls. Arco is supporting this with an Expert Guide to Winter Workplace Safety that offers all the advice a business needs to prepare for wintry conditions. The Guide offers customers advice on buying and using salt economically and safely with additional recommendations on the types of equipment needed for spreading and storing salt.

Arco offers only marine salt, one of the purest forms of salt and therefore an excellent de-icer, and can supply in quantities from single bags, through to tonne bags and loose salt.

Working in cold environments can impose physical hazards, health risks and affect an individual's performance in the workplace. With many people working or travelling to work in environments that are exposed to the cold, wet, or windy conditions during the winter months, it is imperative that they are able to protect themselves against the elements and accidents that can occur.

When the temperature drops outside, workers can stay protected with Arco’s highly durable range of jackets, fleeces, thermals, hats, gloves and footwear and with dark nights drawing in the Arco range of hi- visibility jackets, overtrousers, shirts, vests and gloves will ensure workers stay safe and stand out.

procurement manager at Arco, said: “Every business needs to be prepared for winter to ensure their workplace is safe and their staff are protected from the worst of the winter elements and are not vulnerable to the hazards that come with it. Not only do workers need adequate tools to work with, but correctly fitted and quality assured protective clothing will also help reduce the dangers and create a safer working environment. Each winter many businesses are caught out by unexpected wintery conditions but we are encouraging them to plan ahead and make sure they are equipped with all they need ahead of time. DHL Supply Chain is aiming to improve safety and reduce CO2 emissions with the addition of cutting-edge ‘teardrop’ trailers to its fleet as part of a multi-million pound investment programme.

The global logistics firm has invested £5.5million in 250 aerodynamic pillarless ‘teardrop’ trailers, which are designed to boost safety, while reducing fuel consumption. Branded in the striking DHL livery, the eye-catching trailers replicate the aerodynamic lines of a teardrop – a swooping roof features a specially designed full-length curve while rounded corners improve air flow and minimise drag – but without compromising internal load space.

reductions. The new trailers are also equipped with live tracking, ensuring that we deliver maximum efficiency and flexibility for our customers.” www.dhl.co.uk

The 13.7m curtain-side trailers boast a number of innovative safety features, including an air activated ground-operated coupling device – or Safe Suzie, a pull out rear safety step, rear reversing sensors, audible reverse alarm, easy glide curtain rollers and Pownall trailer brakes. Supplied by Don Bur, the trailers feature a streamlined roof which eliminates the traditional trailer flaw – excess drag caused by the tractor- trailer gap. As a result, the new design is expected to produce an annual 5% fuel saving. The trailers also offer DHL specification LED lighting, extra rear end protection, internal cargo straps to accommodate varying load types and a DG100 trailer tracking device. David McDonald, VP operations at DHL Consumer Division, said of the trailers: “Not only do they look striking but they feature a range of innovative safety features which should have a significant impact on our CO2
