• puffer champ takes on world CRC, take a bow

YOU CAN BE one of the largest retailers in the bike business, but it doesn't mean you’re not immune to being proud at featuring in a music video. Naturally, Chain Reaction Cycles was chuffed when it saw its logo put to use in Rihanna’s Northern Ireland-filmed ‘We Found Love’ video. To be fair it’s a ‘blink and you’ll miss it’ appearance in the sometimes controversial ‘Umbrella’ singer’s music video, but can any bike companies do better? Let us know at bikebiz@intentmedia.co.uk.

Wheelie good cause

WAY BACK during Eurobike, iXS Sports Division raised funds for Wheels 4Life. MTB legends Hans Rey, Richie Schley, Rene Wildhaber, Andi Wittmann and Darren Berrecloth signed posters, while iXS sold baseball caps to gather cause for the cause. Hans Rey set up the charity to provide free bicycles for people in need of transport in Third World countries. To find out more about the excellent cause head to www.wheels4life.org

takes on Hollyoaks

personalities are getting behind Sport Relief

IT’S NOT OFTEN you get former Olympic champion cyclists and former Hollyoaks and GMTV celebrities in the same room (or IS it?) but these unlikely bedfellows came together in aid of Sport Relief for a PR push last month. Next year Chris Boardman and Graeme Obree will join with other sporting names like Joe Calzaghe and Gethin Jones, as well as model and actress Gemma Atkinson (formerly of Hollyoaks fame) and ex-GMTV Andrea McLean for the worthy cause. They’ll take part in DHL First Nation Home – a showdown between the home nations in a cycling, running, rowing and sailing challenge. Find out more at www.firstnationhome.com

Strathpuffer takes on the world

NEXT FEBRUARY Mike Hall will take part in the Global Bicycle Race, starting at Greenwich Park and taking in a full circumnavigation of the world. Hall will devise his own route, carry his own equipment and find food and shelter on the way. As if that wasn’t gruelling enough, Hall will be racing too. Luckily he has won two 24-hour titles – including the brutal ‘Strathpuffer’ – which should put him in good stead. He will be raising funds along the way and advocating safe cycling too.
