On Tour with David R. Carr

u GER David Carr and his wife, Penny, spent a week visiting the five lodges of the ALASKA State Elks Association’s Central District. Among the adventures the first couple shared during their visit were a fishing trip in Valdez, a visit to Santa’s house in North Pole, and a ride in a cart pulled by sled dogs at the Iditarod Trail Headquarters. Also while in Alaska, the first couple took a tour of the Colony House Historical Museum in Palmer, visited the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center in Portage, shopped at a jade factory in Girdwood, and staffed the Palmer Lodge’s Gerbil Race booth at the Alaska State Fair. They were also hosted for a dinner at each of the Anchorage, Eagle River, Fairbanks, Palmer, and Valdez Lodges. During their tour of the West Coast and Alaska Tsunami Warning Center, the first couple had the opportunity to see the center in action, thanks to a small earthquake near Adak. They also had a chance to visit the state major project, the Alaska State Elks Association Youth Camp, which provides a camp experience to underprivileged youth sponsored by the state’s lodges. Pictured at the camp are (from left) State Sponsor Roger True, Past First Lady Marilyn True, First Lady Penny Carr, and GER Carr.

GER David Carr and his wife, Penny, traveled to Bridgeport, WEST VIRGINIA, to join r nearly 170 Elks and guests at the midyear meeting of the West Virginia Elks Association. Prior to the opening session, the first couple went to Clarksburg and toured the headquarters of the FBI Criminal Justice Information Services Division, which houses the largest and most sophisticated database of crime data, including fingerprint data, in the world. During the meetings,

the GER had the opportunity to inspect one of the

association’s drug awareness trailers and helped the association present awards to outstanding young people. Pictured are (from left) SP Jerry French, ENF Most Valuable Student scholarship recipients Colin Frosh, Anna Giesmann, and Mary Bulriss, First Lady Penny Carr, and GER Carr.
